The budget gap rose by about $2.5 million recently after delays in the opening of two new schools at the sites of the James Buchanan and Ralph Waldo Emerson elementary schools. The increase would bring the district about $1.8 million, or roughly $372,000 per mill, according to John Steffy, the district’s business manager. The proposed 4.84-mill tax hike would bring the total millage rate to 206.6446, and the tax bill for a home assessed at the district average up to $3,637. Under the $134.4 million preliminary spending plan approved Tuesday, the owner of a property assessed at the township average of $17,600 would see the school tax bill go up about $85 next year.
The Bristol Township School District will likely use a 2.4 percent tax increase, cuts and money from savings to fill a nearly $4.8 million gap in the 2015-16 school year budget.
